UNESCO chain in bioethics
The Medical Ethics and History of Medicine Research Center of Tehran University of Medical Sciences is proud to be designated as a UNESCO Chair in Bioethics. With years of academic, research, and educational experience in the interdisciplinary fields of bioethics, medical history, health law, and philosophy of medicine, the Center holds a significant position in shaping ethical knowledge and policymaking in medical sciences and biotechnology at both national and international levels.
The awarding of the UNESCO Chair is a testament to the Center’s commitment to promoting intercultural dialogue, advancing global principles of bioethics, strengthening educational and research capacities, and expanding academic collaboration with universities, research institutions, and policymaking bodies around the world. The UNESCO Chair in Bioethics at this Center aims to deepen ethical understanding of emerging challenges in the life sciences and healthcare, with particular focus on health equity, patients’ rights, ethics in emerging biotechnologies, and the cultural and religious dimensions of bioethics.
As a UNESCO Chair, the Research Center seeks to actively contribute to the development and dissemination of bioethical principles through the creation of regional and international cooperation networks, the development of interdisciplinary educational programs, the organization of academic workshops and conferences, and the publication of scholarly works. These efforts are grounded in both UNESCO’s universal values and the local cultural and social context.
This Chair provides a dynamic platform for intellectual exchange, the promotion of justice, and global scientific solidarity in addressing the ethical challenges facing humanity in the era of rapid biomedical advancements.
